Extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and PASS Floor Insurance Reform
The Shasta Association of REALTORS®, in collaboration with the National Association of REALTORS® (“NAR”) and California Association of REALTORS®, urges you to contact Members of Congress pressing them to reform and extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which is set to expire on July 31, 2018.
Reauthorization is vital as over 5 million homeowners in 22,000 communities around the country rely on the NFIP to provide flood insurance, and according to NAR research, 40,000 real estate transactions are at stake each month the program shuts down.
Additionally, significant reforms of the NFIP are needed to assure it remains a viable option for future property owners, such as allowing them to choose private flood insurance; providing for more granular flood insurance rates and maps that better align with property specific risk; and keeping flood insurance affordable by expanding property risk mitigation programs.
If Congress fails to take action to reauthorize the NFIP, it will expire by July 31, 2018, so ACT now on behalf of property owners across our nation and your fellow REALTORS®!
